The Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) is one of the most widely used measure to assess the intensity of depression. You can take this test to check your level of depressive symptoms.

Please read each group of statements carefully, and then pick out the one statement n each group that best describes the way you have been feeling during the past two weeks, including today.

1). Sadness

– {score=0} I do not feel sad

– {score=1} I feel sad much of the time

– {score=2} I am sad all the time.

– {score=3} I am so sad and unhappy that I can’t stand it.

2). Pessimism

– {score=0} I am not discouraged about my future.

– {score=1} I feel more discouraged about my future than I used to be.

– {score=2} I do not expect things to work out for me.

– {score=3} I feel the future is hopeless and will only get worse.

3). Past failure

– {score=0} I do not feel like a failure.

– {score=1} I have failed more than I should have.

– {score=2} As I look back, I see a lot of failures.

4). Loss of pleasure

5). Guilty feelings

10). Crying

21). Loss of interest in sex

The total score is obtained by summing across all the items.

 

 

Scores of 14–19 indicate a mild level of depressive symptoms.

Scores of 20–28 indicate a moderate level of depressive symptoms.

Scores of 29–63 indicate a severe level of depressive symptoms.

If you score 14 or above, you had better consider strategies to reduce your depression. If you score 29 or above, please seek help from a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist.

I recommend you take a note of this result, with today’s date, so you can keep track of your depressive symptoms and make efforts to reduce it.
